The best Boston gifts for a coffee drinker come from the people who roast it here: a sampler from a Northampton roaster, a seasonal Salem bag, a class at a roastery, a subscription named for a Western Massachusetts landmark. This guide lists what Massachusetts roasters sell themselves, grouped by region, as we read it on their own pages on 2026-09-27.
We give no prices, because they change and we did not record them. Check the roaster's own site before you buy. Everything here is sold by the roaster, not by us. Our own gift appears once, near the end, and says so.
Why buy a gift from a roaster in the state? Because the money pays a roaster in Salem or Orange instead of a warehouse, and the person opening it gets coffee with a name and a town behind it. More on why that matters.
Boston gifts from the city's own roasters
George Howell Coffee roasts in Acton and pours in Boston, with a flagship at The Godfrey Hotel in Downtown Crossing, a cafe on Newbury Street and a stall in the Boston Public Market at Haymarket. It sells coffee subscriptions, and its Boston flagship runs public coffee classes. For someone who loves rare coffee, its single estate lots are the gift.
Gracenote Coffee, with cafes on Lincoln Street and at High Street Place, sells subscriptions in 12 oz, 2 lb and 5 lb sizes, including a roaster's choice option. Its Ethiopia Misty Valley is the coffee it calls a staple.
Broadsheet Coffee Roasters in Cambridge, near Harvard Yard, sells one to four bag subscriptions and an instant coffee, which suits a traveler or a dorm room. Its bags carry color coded flavor families, a friendly start for someone new to specialty coffee.
Jaho started in Salem and now has cafes in the Back Bay, the South End, Chinatown and Downtown Crossing, and Central Square in Cambridge. It sells signature blend, single origin, decaf and roaster's choice subscriptions, and Japanese-inspired blends such as Kissaten No. 3, Koyo and Shibuya Drift.
Fazenda roasts in Dedham and sells a sampler pack and 3 month gift subscriptions. For a hockey fan, its Morning Bru Blend was made for listeners of a Boston Bruins podcast. Its bags are also on the shelf at most Star Market stores, Flour Bakery and DeLuca's Market on Newbury Street.
Salem and the North Shore
Atomic Coffee Roasters in Peabody has made its Witch City Halloween coffee with Salem artist Georgia Wrenn every fall for seven years, with her art on the bags, cans and glasses. It is stocked in shops around Salem through October. The rest of the year, Atomic sells Explorer and Starter sampler bundles by roast level, canned cold brew (a decaf too), and hands-on latte art and barista workshops. A workshop is a good gift for someone who just bought an espresso machine.
Jaho has two Salem cafes, at Pickering Wharf and on Canal Street. The Canal Street cafe is also where Jaho roasts and bakes, so a bag bought there comes from the room where it was roasted.
Worcester and Metrowest
Armeno Coffee Roasters roasts in a mill on Smith Pond in Northborough and keeps about 50 coffees in its shop. Its Coffees Around the World sampler is an easy gift, and its Wachusett Blend, made for the local ski area, suits anyone who skis Mount Wachusett. The shop has a wine room too.
Aero Coffee Roasters, also in Northborough, sells The Fermentation Project in roasted and green sets. The green version is for home roasters. It runs a Roasters Club subscription and does private label gifts.
Red Barn Coffee Roasters in Upton sells a roast level sampler gift box, black nitro cold brew in cans, and seasonal flavored coffees such as Autumn's Delight and Frosty's Crisp.
Acoustic Java roasts in Worcester's Whittall Mills complex and teaches Specialty Coffee Association classes there. It sells a roaster's choice subscription, loose leaf teas, brewing gear and a barrel aged Sumatra. A class makes a gift that lasts longer than a bag.
The South Shore and the Cape
Speedwell Coffee in Plymouth sells roaster's choice subscriptions with 3 month, 6 month and annual gift options, and canned nitro cold brew. Its monthly Fundamentals in Espresso class takes four students at a time on professional equipment, and it gives roastery tours.
Mike Shea's Coffee Roasting in Bridgewater fills refillable 64 oz growlers with its house nitro cold brew and does custom flavored coffee.
Equal Exchange, the worker co-op based in West Bridgewater, sells tea, chocolate, nuts and dried fruit alongside its organic coffee, which makes a mixed box easy. Its Women in Coffee Blend is a thoughtful pick.
Three Fins Coffee Roasters in West Dennis makes two-ingredient bean-to-bar chocolate and drinking chocolate as well as coffee, sells coffee subscriptions, and does coffee favors for weddings and events. The coffee names lean on Cape surf culture: Point Break, Longboard, Beach Bum.
Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters in Sandwich sells a sample bag and three-pack gift sets, plus the Hoot Club single-origin subscription. Blend names such as Jaws Blend and Captain Crosby Blend are pure Cape Cod.
The Pioneer Valley and the Berkshires
Shelburne Falls Coffee Roasters sells prepaid subscriptions named for local landmarks: The Iron Bridge, The Flower Bridge and The Fire Tower. Its flavored line runs to Sugar Maple Nut and Roasted Chestnut, and it has six cafes from the Mohawk Trail to East Longmeadow.
Indigo Coffee Roasters in Northampton roasts on a 1951 German drum roaster it calls Rosie. It sells sampler packs, organic Fair Trade nitro cold brew and flavored coffees such as Maple Nut and S'mores.
Dean's Beans in Orange, owned by its workers, sells green coffee and home roasting kits, Sweet Justice cocoa and sugar, and custom blends.
Esselon in Hadley roasts on a 1969 Gothot drum roaster and sells rare teas alongside its coffee. The cafe on the Hadley Common has a full food menu, if the gift is a morning out.
Barrington Coffee in Lee sells tasting pairs and samplers by roast level, rare Gesha lots, and coffee classes in the Berkshires. Visitors to the roastery can watch production through the reception windows.
