Aero Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Massachusetts: an independent roaster based in Northborough, founded in 2020. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Peter Femino opened Aero in June 2020 after 27 years in the coffee industry, putting a roastery, a bakery and a cafe under one roof. Although it opened during the pandemic, Femino set up an employee ownership model: after a year of full-time work, staff earn role-based bonuses, and his long-term plan is to hand ownership to the head roaster, head baker, head barista and head chef. The company says it cares as much about its relationships with customers, wholesale accounts and the community as about the coffee itself.
Head roaster Michel Brode lets each coffee decide its roast, light, medium or dark, and brings more than 23 years in the industry to its toll roasting and private label work. Aero uses compostable corn cups and straws, recycled to-go containers and steeped coffee bags in place of plastic pods. It sells a Fermentation Project set, including a green coffee version for home roasters, alongside a rotating list of single origins.
What they roast
Roast levels run light, medium and dark. House blends include Metric Blend (light) and Pride Blend 2026 (medium). Single origins on the list when we checked: Kenya Tegu AA, Rwanda Ishema women-produced washed, Burundi Ntwari natural, Burundi Turihamwe washed, Colombia El Mirador Pink Bourbon, Colombia El Placer, Colombia Chiroso, Colombia Marta, Finca La Maria, Guatemala Bolsa honey, Guatemala Kape, Brazil Rosa (dark) and Papua New Guinea (dark). Arango Decaf in light and medium roasts and Colombia Marta Decaf light roast. Decaf method not stated on the shop listing.
