Their story
Atomic traces its roots to the mid-1990s, when two brothers opened a string of cafes on Boston's North Shore. Today brothers Spencer and Logan lead the company as the second generation of the family business, which has used coffee to build community for more than two decades. Its buying team includes three licensed Q Graders. It buys only specialty grade coffee, pays farmers a premium, and roasts every batch to order and packs it by hand at the roastery north of Boston.
The company states its mission as spreading positive energy, and its team motto is to Be Atomic. Atomic has brewed and canned its own cold brew for years. In 2026 it released POTENTIAL, a one-run cold brew made with coffee scientist Christopher Hendon and his company Overpotential, which uses an in-line electrochemical step to lift fruit and sweetness. It was the first coffee made with that technology. It also runs mobile coffee carts and corporate coffee catering, with every batch roasted in Peabody.
What they roast
Roast levels run light, medium and dark. House blends include House Blend (medium), Singletrack, Loud Pow, Simple Summer, Holiday Blend and Merry and Bright (seasonal) and Witch City (seasonal light roast). Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Gera Estate, Ethiopia Worka Sakaro, Kenya Murang'a, Burundi Ngozi, Rwanda Nyamasheke, Uganda Bugisu, Zambia Kateshi Estate, Colombia Pink Bourbon, Costa Rica La Pastora, Honduras Manos de Mujer, Guatemala Huehuetenango, Peru Cajamarca, Mexico Chiapas, Papua New Guinea Baroida Estate and Bali Kintamani. Sells an Espresso Explorer and Espresso Starter set of coffees chosen for shots and milk drinks, from chocolatey medium to syrupy dark. Daydream Decaf, a water-processed Brazil medium roast, and Colombia Condor Decaf from Tolima, decaffeinated with the sugarcane ethyl acetate method. Also a decaf cold brew. Every fall for seven years Atomic has made its Witch City Halloween coffee with Salem artist Georgia Wrenn, who began drawing spooky Salem designs at a lemonade stand and now runs a shop on Front Street. Her art covers the bags, cans and glasses. Witch City is stocked in shops around Salem through October, and all online orders ship from the Peabody roastery. Hosts tours, tastings and hands-on barista and latte art workshops near Boston.
