Their story
Fazenda calls itself Boston's specialty coffee roaster and builds its business around service, working closely with restaurants, cafes, hotels and offices across Greater Boston and New England. Beyond coffee, it gives wholesale partners brewing and espresso training, commercial equipment, an in-house team of technicians for maintenance, online training modules and a mobile ordering app. Its range runs from crowd-pleasing blends to reserve single origins, and it tastes coffees with each account to find the right fit.
Fazenda roasts on a Loring roaster, which it chose to reduce its carbon footprint. It has worked with Flour Bakery for about 20 years and roasts the dark roast and 9 Bar espresso served in Flour's cafes. Several coffees highlight producer groups, such as Honduras Mujeres Unidas from a network of women farmers in La Paz and Intibuca, and a Fair Trade decaf from an indigenous cooperative in Cauca, Colombia founded in 1980.
Its equipment team selects, installs and maintains commercial gear for partners, from super-automatic and traditional espresso machines to batch brewers and water filtration, with technical support seven days a week.
What they roast
Roast levels run medium and dark. House blends include Fazenda Blend (house blend), French Roast, Flour Bakery Dark Roast, Morning Bru Blend and Cold Brew Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Durame Village, Sumatra Lintong, Guatemala Candelaria, Costa Rica El Conquistador, Colombia Community Harvest and Honduras Mujeres Unidas (also as a dark roast). Three espressos: 9 Bar, a syrupy honey and natural process blend preferred by Flour Bakery; Protocol, built on coffees from Honduran women producers with a Huehuetenango component; and Midnight Blue, a dark Italian style blend of Brazil and Guatemala. Colombia Decaf from the Cauca indigenous cooperative and a Decaf Espresso from the same beans, decaffeinated at origin with the sugarcane method.
