Their story
Acoustic Java is an independently owned, small-batch roaster serving Worcester, built around the idea of welcoming spaces for quiet time or meeting friends, with coffee, tea and light fare such as muffins, bagels and croissants. It roasts in a certified USDA Organic facility and carries Fair Trade, organic, Bird Friendly, Rainforest Alliance and women producer coffees, alongside high-scoring microlot and estate coffees bought directly from farming families. The company compares great coffee to great music, both works of art that take knowledge and practice. It runs an SCA Premier Coffee Campus at its roastery, where head roaster David Fullerton, an authorized Specialty Coffee Association trainer, teaches coffee and barista skills classes.
When classes are not running, the campus becomes a microcinema for public and private events, including documentary and independent film screenings. Fullerton, also the company's CEO, wrote a Roast Magazine article on roasting terroir coffees, drawing on a visit to the El Vergel farm in Tolima, Colombia.

Roast levels run light, medium and dark. House blends include Grouchy's Breakfast Blend, Voyager Blend (dark), Three Africans Blend, Marta's Rubies, Rocktoberfest Blend (seasonal), Candy Blast and Cold Brew Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia Wush Wush, Kenya, Tanzania Peaberry, Burundi Hafi, Costa Rica La Tirra, Costa Rica San Luis Micromill, Colombia La Roma, Colombia Manuel Dagua, Peru Luya, Guatemala, Mexico, Brazil, Sumatra and Barrel Aged Sumatra. Roastmeisters Espresso Blend as the house espresso, plus Gorgon's Head Espresso, a dark roast Colombian. Peru Decaf, a certified organic medium roast decaffeinated with the Swiss Water Process. Where to drink it
The roastery and tasting room in the Whittall Mills complex serves drinks and food, hosts a free public tasting every Friday at 10 a.m., and runs classes and events.
