Wavelength Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Massachusetts: an independent roaster based in Shirley. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
A couple with careers in engineering and in research started the company to pair their interests with climate-minded work. Beans are air roasted on all-electric machines, partly powered by solar panels, and packed in reusable steel cans. Coffees are chosen under five themes: next-generation farmers such as women-owned farms, climate-hardy hybrid varieties, adaptive farming, emerging origins and community projects.
In a Boston Globe Q&A, Jim said Deanna runs the general management side while he handles roasting, importing and choosing the beans. The Shirley roastery covers 5,000 square feet and can host private tours, tastings and custom blending sessions for groups.
What they roast
House blends include Colombia Transformation Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Colombia El Espejo Pink Bourbon, Peru Flores de Luya, Guatemala San Martin Asproguate Organic, Costa Rica Hacienda La Minita, Burundi Rimiro Natural and Tanzania Peaberry. Why buying from Wavelength Coffee Roasters matters here
Beyond its web shop, the coffee is sold at Massachusetts stores such as Wilson Farm in Lexington and Concord Market. In July 2026 the couple went live on the Weekend Wakeup segment of WBZ News in Boston to talk about the business and demo a brew. Its bags also turn up at True Grounds in Somerville and at the Revival Cafe and Kitchen shops around greater Boston.
