Newbery Street Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Massachusetts: an independent roaster based in Shirley. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Founder Pack Katisomsakul worked in travel tech, hospitality and catering startups before coffee took hold of him during the pandemic. The roaster centers on Thai specialty coffee and also carries lots from other countries. It roasts on a Loring machine that it says burns far less natural gas than a conventional roaster. According to the company, Pack finished third at the US Brewers Cup in both 2024 and 2025.
The company calls itself a cloud roaster, with roasting done in Shirley, and its bags are also stocked by two Brookline shops, Clear Flour Bread and Brookline Booksmith. Sopa's Estate in Omkoi, a mountain district south of Chiang Mai, is one of its Thai sources; its founder began selling coffee in 2008 and, the shop says, later took first place in a Thai coffee bean contest. Pack credits a bag from Akhaza Coffee, a farm run by second generation grower Billy on Maemon Mountain in Chiang Rai, with sparking his interest in specialty coffee.
What they roast
House blends include Weekday Blend and Beaver's Choice. Single origins on the list when we checked: Jaroon Khun Lao Natural, Nawin Doi Chang Washed, Huai Chomphu Anaerobic Black Honey, Doi Pangkhon Lactic Natural, Jaroon Sunda Gesha, Patio Bonito Sidra, La Loma Ombligon, La Loma Typica Washed and Pau Brasil. Where to drink it
There is no cafe yet; the team usually runs a weekend pop-up at Merai Bar in Brookline.

When the 2026 US AeroPress Championship came to Boston, team member Phillippe Akira Kato won and Pack placed second, according to the company. In 2026 it held Cup of Excellence Thailand cuppings in Boston and Providence, setting out more than 20 Thai coffees for over 50 guests at each. Wholesale projects have included a special roast for the 30th anniversary symposium of Harvard's David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies.
