Tiny Arms is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Massachusetts: an independent roaster based in Shirley, founded in 2021. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The company began in Lowell in 2021 with a small cafe near the city center. In 2023 the owners sold the cafe to put all their effort into roasting. Roasting moved onto a Loring roaster on January 3, 2022, and the operation later relocated from Lowell to Shirley, Massachusetts. Kate also makes handmade ceramics under the Tiny Arms name, and the shop sells her cups next to the coffee.
Jon and Kate met in 2017. Kate started a small ceramics business focused on coffee vessels in 2019, and the pair settled in a Lowell mill at the end of 2020. The name came from a game of inventing trendy business names on a Brooklyn trip; spotting a T. rex, Kate said Tiny Arms and it stuck. Kate studied industrial design with a sustainability minor at Pratt Institute and began roasting for the company in 2023.
It lists its importers and suppliers publicly and composts and recycles to cut landfill waste.
What they roast
House blends include Sweater Weather and Wild Child. Single origins on the list when we checked: Ethiopia Hamasho and Kenya Kamathura. Espresso: Earthtones seasonal espresso. Decaf: Slow Down. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.
