SlackTide Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Massachusetts: an independent roaster based in Marshfield, founded in 2019. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Two longtime friends began roasting small batches for family and friends out of a garage in Marshfield before opening a cafe. The first cafe opened in August 2019, a second followed inside Previte's Marketplace in Hanover in September 2021, and a remodeled Kingston deli became the third in May 2025. Beyond coffee, the company runs a commissary kitchen that makes donuts and baked goods for its cafes every day.
Max Carpman came on board soon after the first cafe opened and took charge of growing the wholesale program. The roasting is done on a Diedrich IR-12 in Marshfield, in small batches for its own cafes and for wholesale accounts at cafes, markets and restaurants across New England. Its donuts began as weekend batches made during the pandemic by Pamela Price, the mother of co-owners Max and Zac, in a licensed home kitchen in Marshfield.
What they roast
Roast levels run light, medium and dark. House blends include BuzzBait Espresso Blend and Atmosphere Basement Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Brazil Salmo and Guatemala La Voz. Espresso: BuzzBait Espresso Blend, a mix of Guatemala Lake Atitlan and Brazil Minas Gerais beans. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.

Three cafes in Marshfield, Hanover and Kingston are open daily from 7 am to 3 pm.

All of its coffee is roasted in Marshfield, a short way down the street from the original cafe on Ocean Street. The Hanover shop shares the open market floor at Previte's with a wine seller and a fish counter, and the Kingston cafe has an ice cream window run by friends of the owners.
