Cafe Reynard is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Massachusetts: an independent roaster based in Malden. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
The cafe is run as a worker co-operative, so the baristas behind the counter also own the business. It describes itself as queer and trans run. Beans are bought straight from the farmers who grow them and then roasted in small batches in house. The worker-owners arrived from engineering, restaurant kitchens and federal government jobs, and they say they use compostable or biodegradable supplies where they can.
Its menu states a pledge to pay everyone on staff a living wage and to trade directly with independent coffee farmers whenever possible. House specialties include Vietnamese iced coffee dripped through a traditional phin filter, and on weekends a flight of cold brews from four different origins.
What they roast
Roast levels run medium and medium-dark. Single origins on the list when we checked: Colombia El Naranjo, Vietnam Great Cherry, Brazil Baile Funk and India Kerehaklu. Offerings change with the seasons, so this is what their own pages listed on 2026-09-28.

The cafe is open six days a week inside Idle Hands Brewery and is closed Wednesdays.

It shares a building with Idle Hands Brewery on Commercial Street in Malden rather than running a storefront of its own. A drink called the Malden Fog gives the London Fog a local twist, using smoky lapsang souchong tea and maple syrup.
