Muddy Water Coffee Roasters is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Massachusetts: an independent roaster based in Harvard. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Owner Tim Van Sipe began roasting at home, and when friends and family kept asking for more he started a micro-roasting company. The business moved from his basement into leased commercial space with a 10 kilo roaster. It also runs a coffee truck fitted with an espresso machine. Van Sipe says he started roasting because he could not find coffee that was truly fresh, and he urges shoppers to check roast dates on store bags.
Every coffee on the shop list is organic, and most also carry Fair Trade certification, including origins such as Peru, Honduras and Sumatra. Orders are roasted after they are placed, so buyers are asked to allow a few days, and bags come whole or ground for drip, espresso, press or AeroPress.
