Jim's Organic Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Massachusetts: an independent roaster based in West Wareham, founded in 1996. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Jim Cannell founded the company in 1996, and the site credits him with starting the country's first all-organic coffee roaster. Every coffee it roasts is certified organic, sourced through long partnerships in Central and South America, Africa and Indonesia. All of its coffee is shade grown on farms with at least 30 tree species, certified organic by USDA and Oregon Tilth, and some carry Smithsonian Bird Friendly status.
Roasting is done on a Probat G240 that handles 100 to 250 pounds per batch. Growers, exporters and importers fill out a company survey covering wages, working conditions, wildlife, waste and community projects. Starting in 1999 it funded a school library in Tzanchaj near Lake Atitlan, Guatemala, with the charity Child Aid, and later backed literacy work in nearby Panabaj.

Roast levels run Vienna Roast, French Roast and Italian Roast. House blends include Aurora Blend, Jo-Jo's Java, WonderBrew, 2 Souls Breakfast Blend and P. Gordon Special House Blend. Single origins on the list when we checked: Colombia, Guatemala Lake Atitlan, Costa Rica Hacienda La Amistad and Ethiopia Guji Suke Quto. Espresso: Espresso Jimbo.
