Circuit Coffee is one of the beloved local roasters we follow in Massachusetts: an independent roaster based in Westfield. Here is what their own pages and public sources say about them, in our words.
Their story
Roasting is done in house on a Sivetz fluid bed machine, which moves the beans with hot air rather than a drum. Coffee grounds and food waste are composted on the owner's family homestead, which grows produce that returns to the cafe. Owner Ted Dobek got his start cooking at home and working several coffee jobs before deciding a shop of his own was the right outlet.
The roaster is a US-made Sivetz SRM15, and green coffee comes through importers that keep long-term ties with the farms. Every pastry is baked in house each day, and the shop closes on Sundays so the team gets a day off.
What they roast
House blends include Brazil Mogiana Gold Darker Roast and Deere Creek Farm. Single origins on the list when we checked: Colombia El Nevado del Huila, Ethiopia Bombe Abore, Colombia Finca el Lote and Ethiopia Chelbesa Danche. Espresso: Peru Organic Kovachii Espresso. Why buying from Circuit Coffee matters here
The cafe sources dairy and maple from western Massachusetts farms, including Mapleline Farm in Hadley and Justamere Tree Farm in Worthington. Honey comes from Billy C's, eggs from Justamere Egg Farm and fruit from West Parish Orchard, all in Westfield. Compost from the shop grows herbs, tomatoes, jalapenos and rhubarb on the family homestead, and that produce goes back onto the menu.
